Introducing RSVP
Congress created RSVP in 1969. RSVP works with citizens over 55 matching their talents and
lifelong experiences to help with community needs and solve community problems. The goals of
RSVP are to promote the health and well being of the senior volunteers, community agencies and
people being served by volunteers and subsequently the entire community.
WHAT IS RSVP?
RSVP is an invitation to serve created by Congress in 1969, it established a national network of
service programs to provide older Americans the opportunity to contribute to their community.
RSVP of Deschutes County was formed in 1997 and the Council on Aging is the local program
sponsor.
At RSVP of Deschutes County, we believe that Volunteers are a community’s greatest resource
and they do Make a Difference. We also know volunteers often bring years of professional
experience to their volunteer positions, offering a wide range of skills and abilities in service to
their communities. That is why RSVP program’s flexibility encourages people 55 years and up to
put their creativity and problem-solving skills to work. Through the combined energies of
volunteers and agencies - “all us working together we will make a difference in our communities.
Benefits
In addition to the satisfaction of doing important, worthwhile work and belonging to a caring,
active group of people, there are other benefits available to RSVP volunteers:
• Limited meal and transportation reimbursement for those who may need it.
• Excess accident and personal liability insurance while volunteering.
• Supplemental auto insurance coverage while traveling directly to and from the RSVP assignment.
• A centralized listing of RSVP volunteer assignments available in the community.
• Personal consultation in selecting a volunteer opportunity that is a good match.
• A bi-monthly newsletter providing information for and about volunteers.
Who Can Volunteer?
Any person 55 years and older willing to share time, talent and skill for the betterment of the
community is eligible to join RSVP. Volunteers will complete enrollment information, receive an
orientation to volunteering and will be referred to a volunteer assignment(s) suited to his/her
interests and capabilities.
What Organizations Can Receive RSVP Assistance?
Any public or non-profit community agency or organization may apply to be a RSVP volunteer
station. A memorandum of understanding will be signed outlining the responsibilities of RSVP and
the participating program. Interested agencies are invited to contact RSVP at 541-548-8817 ext.

Advisory Board
An advisory board advises and assists the project staff and sponsor. The council will include
representation from the community served by the RSVP. Anyone interested in serving on the
board or with suggestions for board members is encouraged to call the RSVP office at 541-548-
