Board Member
Sharlene worked for the County of Los Angeles for almost 33 years, first as the private secretary of a middle management personnel officer and then as a legal secretary and legal transcriber in the County’s District Attorney’s Office. She has also been a certified Braille proofreader, licensed by the Library of Congress, a certified Music Therapist in Germany, and, very briefly, a medical transcriber. She is a current and long term member of the American Council of the Blind. Sharlene has participated in many volunteer trips to hospitals and Senior Care homes.
Why I Serve…
“Seniors, like the disabled, are among the most underserved people both in the community and in the nation. Our voices need to be heard and our needs addressed. I have also been a member of the American Council of the Blind for many, many years, and have first hand knowledge of the issues visually impaired seniors face as they age. As both a disabled person and a senior citizen, I feel very able to represent these two groups in advocacy as a Board member.”
