Key Things To Know

  • Effective March 28th, Oregonians will be allowed to pump their own gas until Saturday, April 11, though an extension of the order is possible.
  • Central Oregon phone line open for individuals in Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson County who have questions about COVID-19. Call Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 6:30pm at (541) 699-5109.
  • Protected senior food options and hours in the tri-county. A list of those services can be found here.
  • The entire Oregon State Parks system is closed effective March 23 and includes all state parks, all trails, viewpoints, picnic areas and facilities.
  • Effective Wednesday, March 25, Deschutes National Forest campgrounds will be closed through at least May 8.

The Council on Aging modified operations due to COVID-19 on March 16th.

Senior Program Updates

Information on senior programs across the tri-county area can be found below:

  1. March 12th is the last day of in-person congregate lunches.
  2. Starting on March 17th, those who regularly dine at the La Pine Senior Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, will be provided a take-home meal. 
    • Take-home will be available for pick up between 12 noon and 12:30 on a first come first serve basis each day until further notice.
  3. All programming is cancelled as of March 12th until further notice.
  4. Meals on Wheels home-delivery will continue uninterrupted using a non-contact delivery method. 
    • Meals on Wheels home delivery is suspending hand-to-hand delivery and are asking volunteers and our clients to keep a six-foot distance from each other.  Volunteers who have a cough or have symptoms of the flu are asked to stay at home rather than risk exposing home-bound seniors.
  5. Check the La Pine Senior Center website for the latest updates

  1. Starting on March 31st, seniors over 60, can get a take-home lunch at the Sisters Community Church each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. 
    1. Take-home will be available for pick up between 12 noon and 12:30 on a first come first serve basis each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until further notice.
      1. Clients can drive through the main entrance of the Church and will be met with a meal to-go as they sit in their car.
  2. Meals on Wheels home-delivery is continuing uninterrupted using a non-contact delivery method. 
    1. For Meals on Wheels home delivery, we are suspending hand-to-hand delivery and are asking volunteers and our clients to keep a six-foot distance from each other.  Volunteers who have a cough or have symptoms of the flu are asked to stay at home rather than risk exposing home-bound seniors
  1. Starting on March 19th, those who regularly dine at our 1036 NE 5th street site on Thursdays will be provided a take-home meal. 
    1. We will provide take-home meals  between 12 noon and 12:30 on a first come first serve basis each Thursday until further notice.
    2. Clients can drive into the back parking lot of our 5th Street Community Center via the entrance off Kearney and we will bring a meal to-go as they sit in their car. Meals will be ready to hand out at noon on a first come, first served basis.  We will have the exit gate open so you can drive smoothly through, no need to park in the lot.

  2. Several health insurance companies have agreed to waive co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles for COVID-19 testing. Visit our COVID-19 page (en español) to learn more about the agreement and review frequently asked insurance and financial questions.

Nutrition education classes at all of our congregate meal sites in Central Oregon are cancelled until the senior centers reopen. Check back for updates.
