Update: Starting January 1, 2025, Moda and Regence will no longer offer Medicare Advantage plans in Central Oregon. Beneficiaries impacted by this change should have already received direct communication from their carriers regarding the discontinuation of coverage. For questions about new coverage, please contact our SHIBA counselors using the phone number below.
The Council on Aging of Central Oregon’s trained Medicare counselors provide free, unbiased assistance for those enrolling in Medicare at 65, as well as for current enrollees exploring their options. These dedicated volunteers are part of Oregon’s Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) program, which focuses on educating and advocating for Medicare recipients.
Through one-on-one phone sessions with a SHIBA counselor, you can gain a clear understanding of your Medicare benefits, compare health insurance plans, and avoid overpaying for medical care and prescriptions. Our Medicare counselors can answer questions about:
- Medicare Part A and Part B
- Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Medicare Part D)
- Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)
- Medicare Advantage Plans (HMOs and PPOs)
- Long-term care insurance
- Medicare Savings Programs (QMB, SLMB and QI)
- Prescription drug assistance programs or drug discount cards offered by your state and pharmaceutical companies
- Medicaid and other insurance programs (including free or reduced-fee health care programs)
To schedule your phone or in-person appointment, call (541) 678-5483. Our SHIBA counselors can offer appointments in Spanish using the Language Link translation service. Leave a message with your name and city and we will get back to you to set up an appointment.
