Our Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) volunteers offer free, unbiased and confidential assistance with Medicare insurance choices.

These in-depth, one-on-one Medicare insurance counseling sessions are provided to Medicare beneficiaries and their families, friends and caregivers. For example, a counselor may help a client figure out which Medicare Part D prescription drug plan makes the most sense for their particular circumstances.

The counselors also help those applying for Medicare select the right coverage for their needs.

“During the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period,  I took my Mom to see SHIBA counselor Jack Hoxie at the Redmond Senior Center to have him help us to review her Medicare Advantage plan for 2020. Mom has been complaining about how much she spends on her health insurance. As a result of our consultation with Jack, it was determined that Mom would be able to change to a different plan with a much lower monthly premium. We confirmed this with the insurance company, and signed her up for the lower-premium plan for 2020. My Mom is just thrilled with the result!”
